Global Youth Sustainable Career Advancement Programme (GYSCA)
In an era where globalisation, technological transformation and sustainability agendas are increasingly intertwined, young people stand at an unprecedented inflection point. Career pathways are no longer linear, industry boundaries continue to be reshaped, and expectations of talent have evolved from single-dimensional capabilities to more integrated and forward-looking competency structures. How to develop sound judgement amidst change, build capability within complexity, and achieve long-term development in conditions of uncertainty has become a defining question for today’s youth.
In response, the United Nations Global Leadership and ESG Development Centre (UNGLEP) has launched the Global Youth Sustainable Career Advancement Programme (GYSCA). Grounded in a global perspective and supported by real-world industry practice, the programme is designed to establish a long-term development platform that connects young people, enterprises and future-oriented capabilities, enabling youth to pursue sustainable career growth in a rapidly changing world.
At its core, GYSCA seeks to address critical gaps in youth development: the gap between capability and opportunity, between education and industry, and between awareness and action. Through structured learning pathways, competency-based certification mechanisms and access to real-world practice opportunities, the programme aligns youth development with evolving industry needs, supporting participants in building capability frameworks and career pathways oriented towards the future.
In its design, GYSCA brings together resources from multinational corporations, listed companies and leading enterprises to create a multi-layered and multi-dimensional support ecosystem. Participants engage in structured learning and assessment through the official platform, leading to recognised certification and inclusion in a global youth talent pool. Through this platform, young people gain access to internship and career development opportunities, while engaging with senior mentors across industries. This enables them to understand professional pathways within authentic business contexts and to strengthen both judgement and execution.
As a key component of the programme, GYSCA incorporates a senior mentor system, bringing together senior leaders and professionals from industry and global organisations. Through masterclasses, case-based sharing and in-depth dialogue, these mentors provide cross-industry and cross-cultural insights, supporting young people in developing a more sophisticated understanding of industry dynamics, organisational systems and personal growth.
To ensure a systematic and sustainable approach to capability development, UNGLEP has also established the GEAR Talent Framework. GEAR represents Global, ESG-driven, AI-era Competency and Resilience. It responds to the evolving expectations placed on youth by future societies and industries, providing a structured reference for both capability development and assessment, while offering young people a clear framework through which to understand and navigate their own growth.
GYSCA is not a standalone course or a short-term initiative, but a platform-based mechanism designed for long-term development. It offers not only access to knowledge and experience, but also continuous pathways, connections and opportunities. Through this platform, young people are able to engage earlier with the realities of the professional world, understand their position within it, build meaningful capability structures, and progressively develop future-oriented career competitiveness.
In an increasingly uncertain world, long-term development is shaped less by isolated decisions and more by the ability to make consistently better judgements over time. GYSCA aims to support young people in cultivating this capability, while leveraging global resources and industry partnerships to open pathways towards a wider range of future opportunities.
