AI-Driven Climate Finance and Digital Equity Take Center Stage at UN Summit in Geneva
GENEVA – July 18, 2026 – A landmark high-level side event at the UN AI for Good Global Summit has unveiled groundbreaking solutions to bridge the global climate investment gap, with a strong focus on leveraging artificial intelligence and blockchain for equitable digital transformation. Co-convened by the UN Global Leadership & ESG Programme and partners, the two-day forum in Geneva brought together government officials, UN bodies, sovereign wealth funds, and industry leaders.
The event formally established the World Climate Finance & Digital Asset Council (WCFDAC) as a permanent multilateral coordination body under the Paris Agreement. Key initiatives launched include ClimateEX, a UAE-licensed regulated trading platform for carbon credits, and the world's first sovereign gold-backed green digital currency, Metra Gold (GOLDM). A flagship project for Indonesian peatland restoration was also signed, guaranteeing over 2 million verified carbon units annually.
Speakers, including UNGLEP Chair Dr. Xiang Luo and former UN Under-Secretary-General Fabrizio Hochschild Drummond, stressed that developing nations must not be left behind. The new framework aims to standardize carbon markets, unlock private capital, and ensure that ecological value flows equitably across borders, marking a pivotal step toward inclusive, tech-enabled climate action.
