On October 15-16, 2024, the 2024 G20 Entrepreneurship Roundtable Dialogue, co-hosted by the G20 Entrepreneurship Research Center of Tsinghua University and the Ministry of Labor and Employment of Brazil, was held at the School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University in Beijing. The theme of this roundtable dialogue was "Promoting digital and sustainable entrepreneurship to drive high-quality full employment". Luo Ying, Chairman of the Management Committee of the United Nations Global Leadership and ESG Development Center, was invited to attend and preside over the third roundtable dialogue.
The conference achieved successful results. The guests gave speeches on the sustainable development of women and youth employment enabled by science and technology, which is mainly reflected in the following aspects:

1. Opening up new employment areas

Digital economy: With the widespread application of digital technologies such as the Internet, artificial intelligence, and big data, the digital economy has become a new engine for economic growth. With their rapid adaptability to new technologies and innovative thinking, women and young people have found a large number of employment opportunities in digital economy fields such as digital marketing, e-commerce, digital content creation, and artificial intelligence development. For example, many women have demonstrated excellent communication and creative abilities in the field of digital marketing, and can accurately grasp market trends and consumer needs to develop effective digital marketing strategies for enterprises.

Green industry: Technology has played a key role in promoting the development of green industries, such as new energy, energy conservation and environmental protection, and resource recycling. These emerging green industries provide a wealth of jobs for women and young people, from technology research and development, engineering design to project management. For example, in the process of developing new energy vehicles, a large number of young engineers with innovative thinking are needed to promote breakthroughs in battery technology, autonomous driving technology, etc.

II. Improving the quality of employment

Skill improvement: The development of science and technology has prompted women and young people to continuously improve their skills to adapt to new employment needs. The rise of online education platforms and various training courses has enabled them to learn new knowledge and skills more conveniently, such as programming languages, data analysis, and artificial intelligence algorithms. By learning these skills, women and young people can better meet the market demand for high-quality talents, improve their employment competitiveness, and thus obtain higher-quality employment opportunities.

Work flexibility: Technology empowerment also brings more flexible working methods to women and young people. The popularity of remote office technology enables them to break through geographical restrictions, work at home or in other suitable places, and better balance work and life. The rise of freelance platforms provides them with more freelance opportunities, and they can choose different projects to cooperate according to their own interests and professional skills to achieve diversified career development.

Third, promote entrepreneurship to drive employment

Lower the threshold for entrepreneurship: The advancement of technology has lowered the threshold for women and young people to start their own businesses. The Internet and digital technology enable them to carry out entrepreneurial activities at a lower cost, such as opening online stores through e-commerce platforms and using social media for brand promotion. For example, a young entrepreneur can realize his entrepreneurial dream by creating a creative WeChat applet that provides users with a convenient life service solution.

Providing entrepreneurial support: Various types of technology entrepreneurial incubators and accelerators continue to emerge, providing all-round entrepreneurial support for female and young entrepreneurs, including financial support, technical guidance, and market resource docking. These entrepreneurial support institutions use technological means and professional services to help entrepreneurs better implement and grow their entrepreneurial projects, thereby creating more employment opportunities.

Luo Xiang emphasized in the roundtable dialogue that technology empowering women and youth employment is one of the important ways to achieve sustainable development goals. As an important force in society, women and youth should fully seize the opportunities brought by science and technology, continuously improve their quality and ability, and actively engage in innovation and entrepreneurship. At the same time, the government, enterprises and all sectors of society should also increase investment in education, policy support and entrepreneurial guidance for women and youth, create a better employment and entrepreneurship environment for them, and jointly promote global sustainable development and inclusive growth.
